The stock market had a fantastic day on Wednesday as the indices surged early and reached session highs early on, taking the S&P 500 to 3002.98 and Nasdaq 100 to 7923.93.
They pulled back, popped, and then came 5-waves down to the morning lows. They rallied back up, consolidated, rolled over mid-afternoon, and a selloff pursued that took them down slightly, but then rallied back up to close about 11 points off the high on the S&P 500 (NYSEARCA:SPY)and 23 points off the high on the Nasdaq 100. It was a good day for Wall Street.
Net on the day, the Dow(NYSEARCA:DIA) was up 76.71 at 26,860.20. The S&P 500 was up 10.44 at 2993.07. The Nasdaq 100 was up 76.54 at 7903.40.
Advance-declines were a little more than 3 to 2 positive on the New York Stock Exchange and 2 to 1 positive on the Nasdaq(NYSEARCA:QQQ). Up/down volume was 10 to 1 positive of New York, total volume 3 billion shares traded. The Nasdaq traded 2 billion and had a little less than 3 to 2 positive volume ratio.
TheTechTrader.com board was all green on Tuesday. To the upside, point-plus gainers included Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) up 29.11 to 2017.41, Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) up 15.65 to 1140.48, Apple Inc. (AAPL) 1.99 to 203.23, Facebook, Inc. (FB) 3.52 to 202.73, and Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) 1.07 to 381.00.
Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) jumped 8.86 to 238.92, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) bounced 2.75 to 160.06, Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG) gained 4.01 to 532.28, and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) advanced 1.39 to 137.85.
Other stocks to the upside included Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSM) up 1.04 to 40.71, Overstock.com, Inc. (OSTK) 1.24 to 18.39, Micron Technology, Inc. (MU) 1.55 to 42.90, Inphi Corporation (IPHI) 2.10 to 57.04, e.l.f. Beauty, Inc. (ELF) 1.49 to 16.95, and eHealth, Inc. (EHTH) 1.47 to 93.51, were among many others.
The only point-plus loser on Wednesday was Bitcoin Investment Trust (GBTC) down 1.11 to 15.24.
Checking TheTechTrader.com percent-gain leaderboard, Akoustis Technologies, Inc. (AKTS) popped 96 cents, or 18%, to 6.28, on 1.3 million shares. Valeritas Holdings, Inc. (VLRX) ran 81 cents, or 28%, to 3.75, on 12 million shares. ContraVir Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CTRV) gained 38 cents, or 10%, to 4.12, on 1.7 million shares. OHR Pharmaceutical, Inc. (OHRP) spiked to 5.35 before pulling back and closing up 56 cents, or 15%, to 4.25, on 1.5 million shares.
. Vislink Technologies, Inc. (VISL) exploded 2.44, or 147%, to 4.10, on 36 million shares. Harmonic Inc. (HLIT) stair-stepped 1.47, on 25%, to 7.45, on 9.3 million shares.
Helen of Troy Limited (HELE) thrust 14.64, or 11%, to 146.31, on 1.1 million shares.
The VelocityShares 3x Lng Crude Oil ETN New (UWT) was up 1.74 to 16.37. SMART Global Holdings, Inc. (SGH) advanced 5.95, or 25%, to 29.93, on 2.3 million shares. McDermott International, Inc. (MDR) snapped back 1.20, or 13%, to 10.51, on 11 million shares.
Among other gainers, Beyond Meat, Inc. (BYND) was up 5.69 to 163.51, WD-40 Company (WDFC) up 13.79 to 175.14, CyberArk Software Ltd. (CYBR) 2.37 to 132.09, and The Walt Disney Company (DIS) 1.93 to 143.54.
